Crestmont Research, a wholly-owned
affiliate of Crestmont Holdings, LLC., develops provocative
insights on the financial markets and on the hedge fund industry.
Crestmont Holdings and its affiliates provide financial market education
services and manage a fund of hedge funds portfolio.
Crestmont’s investment approach with its hedge fund portfolio concentrates
on niche mid-sized, long-biased equity long/short hedge funds located
primarily in the State of Texas. The financial market education services can
be developed for online, on-demand, or in-person delivery.
Crestmont Research was founded by Ed
Easterling to develop provocative insights and perspectives on the financial
markets and hedge funds. Mr. Easterling also is a partner with a
$130 million private equity fund and a Senior Fellow with the Alternative
Investment Center in the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist
University ("Cox School"). He recently served for five years on the
adjunct faculty in the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist
University where he developed the curriculum and taught the course on Hedge
Fund Investment Management for graduate business school students. Additionally, Mr.
Easterling has recently served as a founding Board Member of the Texas Hedge
Fund Association and as an Advisory Board member for the alternative
investments club at the Cox School of Business at SMU. Mr.
Easterling is the author of Unexpected Returns: Understanding Secular
Stock Market Cycles, contributing author to Just One Thing: Twelve of
the World's Best Investors Reveal the One Strategy You Can't Overlook
(John Wiley & Sons: 2005), and co-author of chapters about Crestmont’s research in the
book, Bull’s Eye Investing by John Mauldin, published by John Wiley &
Sons.
Previously, Mr. Easterling and two partners consummated
the acquisition of American Federal Bank, F.S.B., a $3.2 billion federal
savings bank formed through the purchase of twelve Texas thrifts. At
American Federal, he served as Chairman of the Asset and Liability Committee
and held other key roles in portfolio risk management and investment
structuring. Prior to creating American Federal, Mr. Easterling served
as Vice President and Treasurer of Swift Independent Packing Company, where
he managed the treasury and corporate finance functions for the $4 billion
revenue meatpacking and distribution company. Previously, Mr.
Easterling served as Treasurer of Valley View Capital Corporation, the
Dallas-based private equity firm that consummated the acquisition of Swift
in 1986. During his tenure with Valley View and its affiliates, Mr.
Easterling had significant trading and risk management responsibilities in
the firm’s commodity and securities hedging and trading operations. Mr.
Easterling holds a BBA in business, a BA in psychology, and an MBA from
Southern Methodist University.
